Future Operating Model Consultation for Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and other Business Groups
Report of Acting Corporate Director - Neighbourhoods
Support for
the establishment and development of Business Associations has been provided
on an ad hoc basis, when funding has permitted, for many years and for BIDs
as per statutory requirements since 2004.
Enabling of
business communities as part of the Working Together in Birmingham’s
Neighbourhoods Policy and significant growth in the number of BIDs (now
twelve in Birmingham) together with the prospect for further growth has
identified a requirement to review our operating model for how to engage and
support.
A formal
consultation is now proposed in order to fully identify the benefit and
investment provided to Birmingham of BIDs and Business Associations,
including their role in accessing central government funding and other
sources of investment.
The
consultation will give opportunity for Business Associations and BIDs to make
representation about areas in which they might be enabled and engaged to
assist in providing services for their local High Street or area.
The
consultation will also identify the costs of the support service and provide
a dialogue to instigate potential areas in which costs may be recovered.
