Equipping Birmingham Adults with Essential Skills - Proposal to Receive and Spend Funding with Delegated Authority to Increase Delivery by Birmingham Adult Education Service
Report of Acting Chief Executive
Cabinet : 14/05/24
14/05/2024

For Birmingham Adult Education Service (BAES) to receive additional funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) for the academic year 2024/25.

This additional Adult Education Budget (AEB) funding is ring-fenced by WMCA for formal qualifications classified as ‘foundation skills’ (up to GCSE or equivalent) for the following: English, Maths, Digital Skills and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

The additional funding will be open to all eligible adults with less than a ‘Good Level 2 Education’. Target groups include unemployed; underemployed; low-waged, and economically inactive.

The additional funding supports the wider impact measures of the Early Intervention and Prevention programme: roof over head’; money in pocket; long term routes to employment; and engaged in healthier, safer communities.
