Purpose
To seek approval to accept the Council’s Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) Local Authority Housing Fund Round 3 funding allocation to support the acquisition of family homes for use as
Temporary Accommodation and 13 family homes for use as settled accommodation
for Afghan Refugees.

On 23 July 2024, Cabinet:-
(i) Approved drawdown of the Councils LAHF3 grant allocation to support the acquisition of family homes for use as Temporary Accommodation and settled accommodation for Afghan Refugees, including any additional grant allocations offered to the Council under the same scheme up to March 2026;
(ii) Approved the resettlement of 13 Afghan families into Birmingham who qualify for resettlement in the UK via the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS);
(iii) Approved the use of up to £6m of additional HRA capital borrowing to support the acquisition of properties to meet the terms of LAHF3;
(iv) Authorised the Strategic Director, City Housing (or their delegate) to accept further LAHF grant funding via DLUHC where the grant can be used to support the property acquisitions programme;
(v) Authorised the City Solicitor (or their delegate) to negotiate, agree and complete all legal documents necessary to give effect to the above recommendations.
