Purpose

The City Council has regularly held prestigious international sporting events and will build on this as part of the legacy from the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Budget provision was made, as part of the 2019+ budget setting process, to enable the City Council to host the 2023 World Trampolining and Tumbling Championships. The City Council has now successfully secured this event and now needs to accept the UK Sport grant attached to the event.

On 17 December 2019, Cabinet:-

 

(I)  Approved the acceptance of the grant award of up to £0.726m from UK Sport as a key funding contributor to delivering the World Championships (see exempt Appendix 4 to the report);

 

(ii)  Authorised the Assistant Director Neighbourhoods in conjunction with the City Solicitor (or their delegate) to negotiate execute and complete all necessary legal, contractual and financial arrangements and documentation to host the 2023 World Trampolining and Tumbling Championships for Birmingham City Council to contract with British Gymnastics to host the World Championships.
