Purpose
Approval is required to extend the current contract for this service with Medequip Ltd for two years ending on the 31st March 2027. This is under a contract waiver agreement to prevent a breakdown in the social care and health system. The existing contract is due to end on the 31st March 2025.
The purpose of this report is to articulate the importance of a community loan equipment service for our citizens and that any break in service is life threatening to both new and existing citizens with assessed clinical need. 
This service enables citizens to live independently at home, enables prompt and safe discharge from hospital and can prevent the need for further support from social care and health. 
The risk of this service discontinuing places a fundamental risk on both social care and health services resulting in increasing the need for both residential and care home demand across the City, delaying discharge from hospital and potential blockages on entry to A&E as beds will be blocked.
