Purpose
Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a charge on new buildings in England and Wales. It is a mechanism to ensure that certain types of new development contribute to the infrastructure needed to support that development. This infrastructure will support the growth aspirations for Birmingham as outlined in the Birmingham Development Plan which includes proposals for over 50,000 new homes and 100,000 new jobs.

Decision Outcome

On the 24 January 2025, the Deputy Leader and Economy and Skills;

 

(i) Noted that the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Application for the Birmingham Open Media (BOM) Digital Media Centre Hub scheme (attached at Appendix 1 to the report) at a total cost of £1,329,500 as endorsed by Place, Prosperity and Sustainability DMT on 3 May 2024, and Capital Board on 15th January, in accordance with the Strategic CIL allocation process. 

 

(ii) Approved Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) grant of £950,000 to BOM (Birmingham Open Media) provide funding towards the acquisition of 122 Great Barr Street to support the delivery of the BOM Digital Media Centre Hub (DMCH); and

 

(iii) Authorised the Interim City Solicitor & Monitoring Officer to negotiate, execute, seal and complete all necessary documents in connection with the above recommendations.
