Purpose

To seek approval of the private sector housing strategy which will set out a roadmap for wholesale improvements to the quality of private sector housing in Birmingham which will identify how the legal powers and duties held by the Council can help to shape the private housing sector to reflect both the pressing housing needs of the growing city, and the equally important commitments made by the Council to building and sustaining diverse, attractive and inviting neighbourhoods.

On 1 March 2022, Cabinet:-

 

  1. Approved the proposed Private Rented Sector Strategy contained in Appendix 1 to the report;

     

  2. Approved the use of £191,000 of the New Burdens grant allocation (£2.46million) for 2022/23 to fund extra staff in the Private Rented Sector Team to support the delivery of the Strategy.
