On 20 October 2025 Cabinet:-
(i)
Subject to receiving confirmation from the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport that funding will be provided at the
minimum percentage set out in paragraph 2.2 in the exempt Appendix 1 of the
report, agreed for Birmingham to be included as a potential host city within
the UK’s bid to FIFA to host the Women’s World Cup in 2035;
(ii)
Following the confirmation of funding from the
West Midlands Combined Authority, as set out in paragraph 2.3 in the exempt
Appendix 1, agreed to underwrite half of the remaining Host City costs;
(iii) Delegated
the completion of the bid submission to the Executive Director, City Operations
in conjunction with the Executive Director of Finance and the City Solicitor
(Monitoring Officer);
(iv) Authorised
the City Solicitor (Monitoring Officer) (or their delegate) to sign all
relevant documents associated with the hosting of the FIFA Women’s World Cup,
including the Host City Agreement; and
(v)
Approved the financial plan to fund the
Council’s contribution to being a host city for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in
2035, should the UK’s bid be successful, including the use of the Major Events
and CWG Legacy Reserves, as set out in the exempt Appendix 1, Section 4 to the
report.
