Purpose
Birmingham has been a City of Sanctuary since 2015. The Council adopted a City of Sanctuary Policy Statement in 2018. That has now expired. Over 2023-24 a new proposed strategy was developed which is now finalised. The strategy includes a Vision Statement for Birmingham as a City of Sanctuary and operational proposals for achieving this through a Strategy. This relates to the city's ambitions for the integration of migrants, asylum seekers, refugees (sanctuary seekers) in Birmingham.
